Origins In order to accomplish the goals of the State Board of Education, the Northeast Texas Regional Education Telecommunications Network (NTRETN) was organized on November 11, 1996 and constituted on April 14, 1997. The focus of this organization is to implement a sustainable wide area network in rural Northeast Texas serving the schools in the Region VIII Education Service Center service area. NTRETN has an elected board of directors consisting of 12 superintendents and the Region VIII ESC Executive Director. Vision Every school district in the Region VIII Education Service Center service area will be connected by a wide area network. This wide area network will provide the highway necessary to link schools, service centers, universities, and community partners from across the state together in one common environment. The vision of NTRETN will see all schools connected to the information superhighway, educators continuing to use technology-based skills, and students challenged through the continual integration of technology to succeed academically and personally. Mission This agency is a consortium of public nonprofit education institutions formed to plan, coordinate and facilitate the cooperative development and operation of a regional integrated telecommunications network (the "Network"), to enable members to better further the mission of its respective members, and to contribute to improved student learning and the overall educational development of the region (the "Mission").
